Open Classes

The New Zealand School of Dance offers open classes to students considering fulltime study at the school.

These classes give the students an opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for the NZSD audition, experience the studios and meet some of the faculty.

Classes are offered in RAD Ballet and Contemporary Dance and are held on Saturdays.

 

Open Contemporary Dance classes

10.45am - 12.15pm Saturdays

Te Whaea: National Dance & Drama Centre

11 Hutchison Road, Newtown, Wellington

These open classes are for senior students (age 15 and over) to learn from leading New Zealand dance artists and the Head of Contemporary Dance.

Dance teachers are welcome to observe, but must reserve a seat in advance.

Classical Ballet Classes

9.00am - 10.30pm Saturdays

These classes are for senior students learning the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. The weekly classes cover RAD Advanced 2.

Fees are payable in cash/eftpos/credit card at the commencement of each class.

 

Contemporary Open Class Tutor

GUY RYAN

Guy is an experienced contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher.

 

As a dancer Guy has worked with a range of companies and choreographers in New Zealand, Australia and Europe. These include: Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre (Ireland), Random Scream Company (Belgium), Sean Parker Company, Anton and Darc Swan (all Australia), Douglas Wright, Michael Parmenter, Kristian Larsen, Sean Curham, Shona McCullagh, Auckland Dance Company, NBR Opera NZ, Touch Compass, Catherine Chappell, Lisa Densem and Footnote Dance.

As a choreographer, Guy has created a number of contemporary works: The Mystery of the Disappearing Body, The Fall Guy, Terrain (a collaboration with Malia Johnston), Fracture, Strobe (a collaboration with Peter Vosper), White Noise, and Red Shift. He has also been commissioned to choreograph for companies such as The NBR NZ Opera, Auckland Theatre Company, The Montana World of Wearable Arts, Footnote Dance and Touch Compass Dance Trust.
